YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES

Leo Clubs

As the youngest members of the Lions organisation, Leos are devoted young people who realise the power of action. Through service to their community, they make the world a better place and find their own lives improved too.

Leo clubs may be based within a school or in the local community. A member of the sponsoring Lions club is appointed as a Leo Club Advisor, and school-based clubs will often also have a staff member to assist.

Leo Club Project of the Year 2023

Each year, we round up the best service projects completed by Leo clubs around Australia.

Thanks to the Australian Lions Foundation, there are two prizes of $500 each, for the best Alpha Leo Club project, and the best Omega Leo Club project.

2023 Alpha Club Winner – Cohuna Leo Club – Community Service Project- Hug in a Rug

Cohuna LEOS saw the impact of the flood waters on Lismore and wanted to help, deciding they could send a ‘Hug in a Rug’ to some of the children affected.

When flood-waters devastated Rochester, Leos swung into action to create more “Hug in a Rug” to help out.

Following a visit by LEO Advisor Lee to the evacuation centre at Elmore, it was identified that there was a great need for play equipment for the children living there.

Bears, outdoor play equipment and art supplies, books were purchased, also bean bags, bookcases.

Leos took their Donut van to Elmore and provided free BBQ lunch and Donuts to everyone.

2023 Omega Club Winner – Cessnock Community Leo Club – Food is Free

Cessnock Community Leo’s Club is delivering a community event, providing fruit trees to families in the Cessnock LGA with the message that “Food is Free”.

This fruit tree giveaway aims to educate the community on sustainable practices, and healthy eating whilst also encouraging families to discover the potential of their gardens.

“Food is Free” will be a collaboration of efforts from the board of Cessnock Community Leo’s with our Grants Coordinator with a background in environmental science providing expert advice on organic pest control and companion planting.
