Lions Australia members have a wealth of experience and are genuinely altruistic. Lions Australia at all times believe in the principle that the best interest of the child and young person is paramount. We are volunteers who are determined to do the best we can and be the best person we can be.
Lions Australia has adopted a Child Safe Policy governing the operation of our three national Youth activities. The Leo of the Year Program, Youth of the Year Program and Youth Exchange. The policy covers activities controlled at the Multiple District (National) level.
Leo Clubs may be established by a local Lions Club as an activity for young people. As each Lions Clubs operates independently, the care, management and operation of a Leo Club is the responsibility of the sponsoring Lions Club. A child safe policy template for Leo Clubs is provided below, noting that is the responsibility of the sponsoring Lions Club to review, adapt and ultimately adopt a policy relevant to the jurisdiction and particular activities of that club.
We acknowledge child safety is every member’s responsibility. As proud members of Lions Australia we are transparent in our actions and we therefore do not hesitate in upholding the principles as defined in this policy.
Lions Districts and Clubs within Australia are encouraged to adopt similar policies covering District and Club children’s and youth programs.
National Principles for Child Safe Organisations The Australian Human Rights Commission provides an excellent downloadable document explaining how organisations can be Child Safe. This is an essential document for Lions involved in our youth programs to read.
