The Lions Australia Council of Governors has elected David Triffett of Tasmania as its 2020-21 Council Chairman.
David has served as a District Governor in Tasmania throughout 2019-20, and has been a member of Lions Australia for the past 19 years. He and his wife Carolyn are currently members of the Lions Club of Clarence.
A mechanic by trade, David’s most recent employment has been with local firm Hazell Bros Civil Contracting as a Procurement Officer.
Prior to joining the Lions Club of Clarence, David and Carolyn were members of Glenorchy City Lions Club for 16 years. They have been heavily involved in a wide range of community programs including Australia Day celebrations, Relay for Life and local Christmas Carols.
With travel restrictions and large gatherings not permitted in the current COVID-19 environment, the announcement of Council Chairman was made for the first time via a special video meeting and live streamed to the Lions Australia Facebook page.
In accepting the role, David said he was humbled by the decision and commented on the unique environment in which he enters as Council Chairman and for the organisation as a whole.
“We need to change the way that we think, and how we can manage our clubs and our Multiple District going forward,” he said. “But we can’t lose sight of the way our year started – in drought and bushfires – we still need to go back there and generate funds back into these areas that were so badly impacted.”
David and Carolyn have two children and two grandchildren and have lived in the Glenorchy City area of Hobart Tasmania since they were married 40 years ago.
