The Lions Clubs International Centenary was recognised by the Surf Coast Shire Council in Victoria at a civic reception on 7 June 2017, attended by Lions Clubs from throughout the District.
Lions District V2 Governor Terry Heazlewood presented the Shire Council with a cheque for $8000 from Torquay and Anglesea Lions Clubs to support local youth services.
As part of its Centennial celebrations, Torquay Lions Club dedicated the year to youth development and service.
“Working with the Shire to offer improved health and well-being services to the Shire’s young people helps us achieve our objective of assisting youth,” said Torquay Lions Club President Brian Keane.
“Torquay and Anglesea clubs are committed to the youth project with other clubs within the Shire currently considering what support they may be able to give’”, he said.
“When we asked Council for some projects we might work with them on, it was natural we would be attracted to the mobile youth unit,” he continued.
“Youth are our future and the future of our nation. If we can assist them in their own development – both in good times and not so good – then we need to be at the forefront.
“We Serve is our motto and Lions Clubs International’s 100 year tradition of service continues with this project.”
The Torquay Lions Club donated a total of $40,000 to community projects throughout 2016-17. Find out more here.
