Posted on Oct 6th 2013 by in Conventions, Membership, News, Youth

The Overall Winner of this Year’s Quest was Leo Megan Hackwood, of Golden Valley Keperra Leo Club, 201Q3, from Queensland and the Public Speaking Winner was Leo Georgia Appleby from Hornsby Leo Club, 201N5, in New South Wales.

Congratulations also to Leo Jacob Doering from Corowa Leo Club, 201V6, representing Victoria, Leo Amy Bryan from Burnie Leo Club, 201T1, representing Tasmania and Leo Stacey Shaw from Harvey Leo Club, 201W2, representing Western Australia.

Megan Hackwood joined the Golden Valley Keperra Leo Club in January, 2012 and was the driver behind the formation of the club. During her time as a member, Megan has created a brand new Leo Club, promoted the name to the general public and recruited new members. Megan is very passionate and committed to serving those less fortunate than ourselves and has participated in community projects such as the 40 Hour Famine, Ronald McDonald House Make a Meal Day, Walk for an Aussie Kid, International Leos Day with Samford Leos, hosting Leo international exchange, the Miss P Fishing Competition and Samford Show. Since Joining Leos, Megan has contributed a total of 467 hours to serving the community!

Her commitment to our Lions organisation has earned her a James McLardie Award, 100% Leo President Award and a Gold Community Service Award from her school! Megan’s Mum, Maree said, “That the family was thrilled when hearing the news and fully supports Megan’s commitment to Leos.”

Megan will now be the MD201 Nominee for an International Leo of the Year Award and International President’s Leo Award. From July 2013, Megan will be appointed to the MD201 Management Group to give a youth perspective for a 2 year term. As well as this, Megan has been invited to join the Brisbane Lord Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council and advise on the draft Brisbane Strategy for Young People 2013-18. Megan is a fine ambassador for Leos worldwide and I very much look forward to working with her to advance the Leo movement across Australia.
