Chairperson’s Message
It is such a
joy to report that we have now fitted in excess of 1571 children with walking
devices throughout Australia, since our inception in 1999. The cost of these
walkers is in excess of $9 million dollars. However, when we look at the
health, social and personal benefits to each child and their family – positive
outcomes are incalculable!
This work is
being carried out through the administration of a very hard working and diligent
group of Trustees throughout Australia. The Trustees are responsible to the
Lions of Australia to facilitate the fund raising through District Chairpersons who
work in Lions Districts with all the Lions, Lioness and Leo Clubs in Australia,
Norfolk Island and Papua New Guinea. Their humanitarian assistance makes ‘it
all happen’!
We must
remember, that the Australian Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation works with
Australian children (under the age of 18 years) to give them the opportunity to
walk with the aid of a walking device. The device that is chosen is the one
that is most suited to that particular child’s needs.
We do not fund
wheelchairs or standing frames.
Donations can
be made directly to the Australian Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation and we
do have Gift Deductibility Recipient status with the Australian Taxation
Office. That is, donations in excess of $2 are able to be claimed. Bequests can
also be given to the Foundation.
The Foundation
also has a range of Recognitions/Awards that can be purchased to recognize a
person, persons or corporate. These range from $500 through to $15,000. Please
see the appropriate web page.
As with any
charitable organization, there is always a need for the work we do.
Unfortunately, we will never ‘not be needed’!
We continue to
work on behalf of those who need to experience the joy of walking, the health
benefits associated with being able to walk and the pure delight of freedom.
Not to mention the positive self image that will also grow from that freedom.
