The research of today could be the cure of tomorrow
The Lions Medical Research Foundation is committed to raising funds for medical research to improve the quality of life for present and future generations. The Foundation was formed in 1963 with initial funding from 40 Lions Clubs. With ongoing support from Lions Clubs and the broader community, funding to internationally recognised medical research across diverse areas continues. Current researchers are working to find early detection and cures for ovarian cancer, address hypoxic injury in newborn babies, and understand anxiety and depression in Parkinson’s disease patients.
The Foundation requires continuing financial support to sustain its mission and purpose. For more information and to donate, please visit http://lionsmedicalresearchfoundation.org.au/

The Foundation manages a fund earned from the efforts of Lion members in past years through the auspices of what was the SA Lions Channel 7 Personality Awards Quest. The Foundation currently funds a three-year postgraduate medical research scholarship, valued at more than $25,000 per year, alternately to Flinders and Adelaide Universities. The Foundation’s Board of Trustees consists of six Lions, three elected from each of Districts 201C1 and 201C2, who serve three year terms.

Since it’s early days the Institute has funded research into the disease by supporting PhD Students in their studies into cancer. Free skin cancer screenings continue to be available to the WA regional communities and the Lions Skin Cancer Screening Unit has visited all parts of the State providing this invaluable service.
